Hola! A word or two about my art.

With a lot of nervousness and excitement, this was supposed to be my first blog post untill it was not, and but here we are.

When I shared my site with friends and fellow artists for review, there was one common piece of feedback: to add context or descriptions for individual artworks - what a specific drawing means or why I drew it. After giving it some thought, I decided to write about the why, the how, and the what behind my work.

Why Do I Draw?

A question I often used to ask myself - and still do - as I progressed, I found a few answers.

It keeps me sane. It is how I perceive the world and try to make sense of life. It gives me the freedom to express my emotions and, at times, offers a way to navigate intense life experiences. It is a conversation with myself. What started as a happy accident, over time, has become an everyday ritual an integral part of my life.

There are moments when I snap back to the reality of my surroundings, only to realize I had drifted into another world entirely. At times it is pure joy; at others, a quiet way to empty the mind, or even a form of meditation.

How: What Is the Process?

There is no defined process, plan, or method I follow to create these artworks.

It usually starts with randomly sketching lines or shapes - an outline that, most of the time, carries no predetermined meaning. I simply continue with whatever comes instinctively. The piece takes shape organically, and I add detailing if it feels right. At some point, when it feels finished, it is done.

Some artworks are completed in a single sitting or across multiple sessions in a day, while others take weeks. Most of the reMarkable 2 pieces, for instance, evolve over weeks or more.

Through it all, memories, moods, and unspoken thoughts find their way into the lines. A quiet longing for someone - held close in thoughts and feelings - might shape the work. On other days, it is my surroundings: the rhythm of a city, my connection to a place, or the solitude of traveling. My absolute favorite space to draw is on a flight, watching clouds drift past the window. On weekends and holidays, you will often find me in a cafe, headphones on, sipping coffee and drawing.

What Do These Artworks Mean?

There is no straight answer to this.

What I often notice is how someone interprets a piece - what they see in it -varies from person to person. Yet occasionally, their impression aligns with what I was feeling while drawing it. That always surprises me, and it mirrors what inspires me most: Nature.

When we look at nature - a tree, a passing cloud, a breaking wave, or a fallen leaf -what we resonate with and the emotions evoked within us are deeply subjective and personal. To me, nature represents love, harmony, coexistence, and a sense of belonging.

While nature is my deepest anchor, inspiration arrives from many other places. It comes through other art forms, music being a major one, the mundane and rhythmic flow of everyday life, and sometimes, simply a someone.

I hope this offers a glimpse into the space these drawings come from.

If a piece makes you pause, if it makes you feel, or if it invites you to look closer - that is what my artwork truly means.

Well, for now, this is where I will leave it. I might come back to this post as I draw, stumble upon new ideas, and find more answers to share. Cheers!
